What is a laboratory diamond?

Lab-grown diamonds are generally produced by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) or high pressure high temperature (HPHT) methods.
They are the purest, highest-quality diamonds.

What is HPHT diamond?
HPHT, used since the 1950s, puts a pure, solid carbon source under high pressure and high temperature. In the presence of a
catalyst, the pressurized and heated carbon crystalizes into diamond. HPHT is sometimes used to improve the color of mined or
lab-grown diamonds.

What is CVD Diamond?

CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) is the process by which CVD Diamond material is produced. CVD Diamond is grown either on the surface of a material as a coating or as a freestanding thick film wafer. These two types are often referred to as thin film or
thick film diamond. The types of diamond produced also vary in type and quality depending on their use. CVD Diamond has no binder
which is why this diamond has such a superior performance in tool life over PCD for example.

What is Moissanite?
Moissanite is regarded as a diamond alternative, with some optical properties exceeding those of diamond. It is marketed as a
lower price alternative to diamond that also claims less exploitative mining practices. Because of its hardness 9.25 mohs, it can
be used in high-pressure experiments, as a replacement for diamonds.
